When you think of a healthy life, you think about getting a solid 8-hours sleep, eating healthier foods, meditating, incorporating activity into your daily routine, and staying hydrated.
When you think about everything separately, it may seem like too much to handle and too much to take care of at once. This particular feeling may put you off the track towards leading a healthier life.
That’s why we’ve prepared this guide of baby steps towards reaching a big goal and that is a generally healthier lifestyle.
The Physical Change
Leading a healthier life means having a healthier body. There are a couple of simple steps that help you reach and maintain a healthier body.
1. Stay Hydrated
This is probably the number one rule for a healthier life. You should drink 8 to 10 glasses of water (or around 2 liters) on a daily basis to keep your body functioning properly.
Staying hydrated eliminates toxins and helps your body regulate its internal activity. So always keep carrying a bottle with you because that’s the most effective reminder.
2. Focus on Nutritional Value
Supplements are a great way to get your daily nutritional requirements. However, if you are able to, try to get these requirements from actual food.
Try getting your B-12 vitamins from poultry, fish, and cheese. Vitamin D can be found in abundance in fortified milk and cereals as well as fatty fish.
Look for minerals such as calcium in yogurt, milk, and cheese. Spinach, broccoli, legumes, and whole-wheat bread are great sources of magnesium.
Whatever it is the vitamin or mineral you’re looking for and that you’re taking a supplement for, you’re going to find it in some kind of natural food. Which is always better.
3. Integrate Exercise in Your Daily Routine
Exercise is actually killing two birds with one stone. Not only does it enhance your physical health but also your mental health.
It doesn’t have to be the tedious task of going to the gym.
Just find an activity that you enjoy such yoga, dancing, hiking, or cycling. There are endless options available.
And if you can’t decide on one yet, try walking or jogging for at least 30 minutes daily. You’ll start noticing the difference in your physical and mental state after only a week.
4. Mind What You Eat
5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day are the suggested amount. Fruits and vegetables include a lot of the vitamins and minerals you need to keep your body in a healthy state.
Stay away from unprocessed foods and stick to lean meats like chicken and turkey.
Try to reduce the amount of fat you eat, especially saturated ones. Switch deep-fried foods for baked food for fewer fats.
5. Keep a Healthy Sleeping Schedule
Make sure you get a good night’s sleep on a daily basis. 7-8 hours of sleep is the suggested amount.
Try switching off any electronics around your bedroom and keeping it completely dark and quiet so you get the most comfortable sleep.
Now that we’re done with the tangible methods, let’s look at the intangible ones
1. Tidy Your Place Up
Having a tidy place, an organized closet, and a clear desk helps you keep a clear mind that’s focused on what you need only.
2. Keep a Positive Attitude
A positive attitude isn’t something you’re born with, it’s something you train yourself to have.
Ditch the complaining and start working on what you want so you can get closer to your goals little by little.
Set realistic, short-term goals that bring you closer to the long-term ones.
3. Practice Gratitude
This is another thing that you have to train yourself to become: a grateful person.
Being able to appreciate what you have and make the best of it helps you reach a more satisfying life.
This increases your dopamine and serotonin levels. And instead of having short-term instantaneous gratification, you get a solid sense of joy that you can carry throughout your days.
Dedicating 10-20 minutes of your day for clearing your mind is a very important habit.
It helps you reduce stress levels and sets your mind straight.
It’s okay if you don’t stick to all of these things on a daily basis, we’re only human after all.
The important thing is to keep the dedication and to always discipline yourself so that you can achieve those things and thereby achieve a healthier lifestyle.
